Brown Mamas has become a powerful tool for driving real-world results and increasing attendance for its partners events and programs.
For over a decade, the Pittsburgh Brown Mamas Facebook group, under the leadership of Muffy Mendoza, has been a thriving hub for more than 7,000 Black mothers, using authentic storytelling and measurable engagement strategies to create meaningful connections. This community has become a powerful tool for driving real-world results, including increased attendance and retention for partner events and programs.
Brown Mamas’ success is built on authentic engagement practices like highlighting real member stories, addressing the unique challenges of Black motherhood, and leveraging Facebook tools such as group insights and ad managers. These strategies ensure content resonates with their audience while providing actionable insights for continuous improvement.
The Hello Baby campaign is a standout example of this impact. By introducing local moms to parenting resources through visual storytelling, the campaign reached over 16,000 individuals, generated 6,000 video views, and converted 73 website clicks directly from Facebook. Coupling social engagement with email outreach boosted campaign success, achieving open rates as high as 40% and driving sustained interest in Hello Baby’s offerings.
As a graduate of the Facebook Community Accelerator,
Brown Mamas has effectively used tools like email marketing, custom tracking links and group engagement metrics to measure and amplify engagement. These tools, paired with authentic storytelling, have made the group a trusted resource for moms and an invaluable partner for community organizations.
The Results? Higher event turnout, stronger program retention, and increased conversions, all driven by content that listens to and centers the needs of Black mothers. Brown Mamas shows how authenticity and measurable strategies can build trust and drive meaningful change.
